The SPI team has over 700 members dedicated to providing the best service in the marketplace to our customers, and each of these individuals contributes greatly to the success of our company. Robert (Bob) M. Rayner
President and Chief Executive Officer
Bob Rayner joined SPI in 2004 as President and CEO and has guided the company through its resurgence over the past few years. This resurgence represents a continuation of Bob’s proven record in construction products and distribution. Most recently he was President and COO of Essroc Corp. a $600 million North America producer and distributor of cement and other construction materials. Under Bob’s leadership, Essroc experienced significant top and bottom line growth. Bob also served on several Boards. Prior to becoming President in 1994, Mr. Rayner was President of the Construction Materials Division and before that was CFO. In 2001, Mr. Rayner served as Chairman of the Board of the Industry Association - The Portland Cement Association. Prior to joining Essroc, for twelve years, Mr. Rayner held various positions in corporate finance and international business at Pepsi Co., Inc. and before that was a civil engineer in the U.K. for six years, with two years in Oman.
Benjamin (Ben) G. DiCarlo
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Ben DiCarlo joined SPI in 2002 as Vice President and CFO. Ben spent over fifteen years with Arthur Andersen and was a partner in the Enterprise Group in the audit division through 1997. From 1998 through 2002, Ben was co-owner of Performance Industries, a firm specializing in business brokering and management consulting services. During his tenure with PI, the firm represented sellers in deals totaling over $100 million. Additionally during his tenure, Ben’s assignments included serving as Executive Vice President and CFO of a $100 million construction company where he was responsible for leading its turnaround. Ben also served as General Manager of a small distribution company and was responsible for its operations and sale.
Daniel (Dan) D. Bofinger
President, Northern Region
Dan Bofinger’s progression with SPI has led him to President of the Northern Region, a position he was promoted to in 2001. His career has seen him progress through roles of increasing responsibility including: Vice President in 1996, Regional Manager in 1992 and Fabrication Division Manager in 1986. A graduate of Millersville University with a B.S. in Industrial Arts Education, Dan Bofinger joined SPI in 1982 in the Lancaster fabrication division as a production superintendent and then as a sales representative. Dan served as chairman of the distribution/fabrication committee and is currently on the Board of Directors of the National Insulation Association (NIA).
Richard (Dick) J. Mitchell
President, Western Region
Dick Mitchell brings a wealth of industry experience to SPI as President of the Western Region. In 1998 SPI purchased Paragon Pacific Insulation from Dick Mitchell, who served as the company’s President from 1998, and his partners. Dick became a partner in Paragon, a Northwest insulation distributor, laminator and fabricator in 1980. Dick Mitchell began his career in 1973 with Owens Corning Fiberglas in Los Angeles as a field sales representative with responsibility for mechanical, acoustical and HVAC products. A native of Washington, he was later transferred to Seattle. A graduate of Washington State University with a B.S. in Business Administration, Dick served two terms as chairman of the National Insulation Association (NIA) laminators committee and served one term on NIA’s board of directors.
Charles (Chuck) F. Schattgen
President, Southern Region
Chuck Schattgen was promoted to President of the Southern Region in 2001. Chuck has years of industry experience and a track record of success and progression. Chuck joined SPI in 1985 as branch manager for the then new Dallas, TX operation and was promoted to area manager in 1987 and to vice president in 1990. Chuck spent 8 years with Owens Corning Fiberglas in various sales and marketing positions, all related to mechanical insulation and HVAC products and services. A Texas Tech University graduate with a B.S. in Business Administration, Chuck Schattgen began his career with an industrial and commercial insulation contractor. Chuck served as chairman of the distribution/fabrication committee and currently serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee as President Elect of the National Insulation Association (NIA).
Jeffrey (Jeff) P. Harp
Vice President, Architectural Products
Jeff joined SPI in 2004 as Vice President Architectural Products. Jeff has 28-years experience with Owens Corning, including multiple areas of increasing responsibility in marketing and sales management. His experience includes sales and marketing management of industrial products focused on the fuel handling industry and various other building products ranging from mechanical and residential insulation to vinyl siding, and roofing products. During his tenure at Owens Corning, he worked closely with contractors and distributors to achieve significant growth in several core businesses. Jeff is a University of Toledo graduate with a B.S. in Education. Jeff began his career as a successful masonry contractor.
Michael (Mike) C. Feehery
Vice President, Southwest Group
Mike joined SPI in 1989 with the start-up of SPI Houston, was promoted to Branch Manager in 1990, Regional Manager in 1994, Vice President/Regional Manager in 1996 and to his current position Vice President, Southwest Group in 2001. Mike continues to lead the Southwest Group in the Southern Region and has been instrumental in growing the business and in developing global opportunities. Mike began his career in 1973 with a major insulation contractor/distributor. During his 16-year tenure with the firm, he held positions ranging from a field worker to director of purchasing.
