Pyrogel is a patented form of silica aerogel. Like cryogel, it has been reinforced with a non-woven, glass-fiber batting to strengthen the material. Pyrogel is so named because it is used at temperatures up to 650°C, making it especially appropriate for fire-proofing applications.
